Feeric Fashion Week: Promoting Sustainability Through Fashion Education and Design
Feeric Fashion Week has increasingly positioned itself as one of the most sustainability-oriented fashion events in Eastern Europe. Beyond functioning as a platform for runway presentations, the festival actively promotes sustainable fashion practices, ethical design thinking, emerging talent, and educational collaboration. Over the years, the event has developed into an international interdisciplinary platform where sustainability is approached not only as an environmental issue, but also as a cultural, educational, and social responsibility within contemporary fashion systems.
One of the central sustainability directions of Feeric Fashion Week is its strong support for young designers and fashion education through the Feeric Hub initiative. The platform collaborates with universities and fashion institutions from various countries, providing students and emerging designers opportunities to present collections focused on innovation, material experimentation, and responsible design methodologies. The initiative encourages critical reflection on the impact of fast fashion and promotes alternative approaches connected to slow fashion, upcycling, and conscious production.

Sustainability at Feeric Fashion Week is also reflected through workshops and educational programs dedicated to ethical fashion and circular design. During the 2024 edition, the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) organized the workshop “Fashion Rebirth,” which explored topics such as upcycling, decluttering, dematerialization, and future sustainable fashion scenarios. Participants were encouraged to work with existing garments and manipulate textiles in order to create new fashion narratives through reuse and creative transformation. The festival additionally addresses sustainability through cultural preservation and ethical awareness. Workshops and lectures connected to heritage fashion, traditional craftsmanship, and
cultural identity emphasize the importance of respecting local textile traditions and avoiding cultural appropriation. These discussions position sustainability not only as environmental protection, but also as the preservation of intangible cultural heritage and responsible creative practice.
Another important aspect is Feeric Fashion Week’s public alignment with international ethical fashion initiatives such as #FurFree, which advocates against fur farming and the use of animal fur in fashion. Through these collaborations, the event supports cruelty-free fashion and contributes to broader conversations regarding ethical luxury, animal welfare, and sustainable material innovation within the global fashion industry.
What distinguishes Feeric Fashion Week from many traditional fashion weeks is its integration of sustainability into multiple dimensions of the event itself: education, community engagement, experimental presentation formats, responsible fashion discourse, and support for emerging designers. In this sense, Feeric Fashion Week functions not only as a fashion showcase, but also as a platform for dialogue about the future transformation of the fashion industry toward more ethical and sustainable systems.
