Legambiente
Legambiente is Italy’s largest environmental association. Founded in 1980, it promotes science-based environmentalism by fighting against the climate crisis, pollution, and environmental crime syndicates, operating through a dense network of local chapters and volunteers rooted across nearly the entire country.
At the forefront of driving the ecological transition, Legambiente places the advancement of the circular economy at the very heart of its activities. The association is actively engaged from a regulatory and strategic perspective, focusing particularly on End-of-Life regulations and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). The fundamental objective is the ecological revolution of crucial European sectors, ranging from textiles to waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) management, as well as the implementation of Green Public Procurement (GPP) and all industrial and civil initiatives that accelerate the energy transition.
The association’s core pillars are:
- Science-based environmentalism:all our actions, campaigns, and proposals are grounded in concrete, realistic, verifiable, and scientifically solid data.
- Widespread presence:we are active throughout the entire Italian territory thanks to a network of over a thousand local groups that mobilize citizens and communities.
- Absolute independence:we are a non-partisan association open to all citizens, funded primarily by membership fees, contributions from supporters, and dedicated projects.
Other national activities and campaigns
- Land conservation and biodiversity:preservation of ecosystems and execution of historic awareness and clean-up campaigns, including Goletta Verde and Goletta dei Laghi (for the health of seas and inland waters) and Puliamo il Mondo (Clean Up the World, for the restoration of degraded areas).
- Environmental law enforcement:Active opposition and exposure of environmental crime syndicates and eco-mafias (ECOMAFIA Report), coupled with the protection and enhancement of landscape and cultural heritage.
- Sustainability and climate:Combating climate change by promoting renewable energy and spreading sustainable models on a global scale.
