Regional Report on Textile Waste Management and Recycling – VERDEinMED Proof of Concept Report
Within the framework of the VERDEinMED project (co-funded by the EU Interreg Euro-MED Programme), a detailed regional report on textile waste management and recycling has been developed and released.
The report covers seven countries: Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Slovenia, providing a comprehensive overview of the current textile waste and recycling landscape. It aims to provide comprehensive information for regional authorities and policymakers to support policy formulation.
The report begins with an introduction to the EU legislative and policy framework for textile waste management, followed by an overview of relevant environmental best practices.
It then examines the current state of play in each participating country, providing a structured analysis of textile waste management systems, regional governance structures, legal and policy frameworks, ongoing initiatives, and institutional actors. Moreover, it includes a country-level SWOT analysis, taking into account legal, social, and technical dimensions, and highlighting key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges.
Finally, it presents a consolidated SWOT analysis across all participating countries, highlighting shared challenges and opportunities within a broader Mediterranean context.
This document represents Deliverable 1.2.2, Regional Reports on the State of the Art of Textile Waste Management and Recycling, part of Activity 1.2 within Work Package 1 – Reforming the Industry by Using Sustainable and Circular Practices in the VERDEinMED project.
